Yes, I have read about this initiative (at least in London).

I fear that the University may not be able to participate to any great 
extent, but we are always interested in local community initiatives, 
and I might be able to assist by the "back door".  

Do you work locally?  Would you like to pop in and talk the matter 
over at some point?
