Discussion Report 16 May 01 Telephone discussion between Paul Clarke (for LanDclub) and Simon Bright (for Luton Borough Council, in the absence of Tim Jeffs, Head of Dept.) over the need raised by Clive Leach (LBC) for research into the health aspects of the [Consume net] system. Paul Clarke: Expressed concern over the need for unspecific research. He pointed out that: (1) Orinoco Products are compliant with European Council EMC Directive 89/336/EEC (amended by 92/31/EEC). (2) Orinoco Products meet General EMC requirements for Radio Equipment, Standard ETS 300 826. (4) That the equipment was very low powered (when compared to other systems in use) and would not exceed output of 100mW. (3) The RA have raised no objections to use of the system in the UK provided compliant equipment is used. Simon Bright: Said he thought that use would be acceptable because: (1) Use of the equipment was acceptable by the RA. (2) Provided restrictions on aerial height were met, the system did not contravene any planning regulation. (3) As far as he knew, there was no blanket ban on this type of equipment. He pointed out that public objections might be raised, at which point the council would need to review the situation. Paul Clarke: Asked if the Council would be interested in using the [Consume net] system. Simon Bright: Replied that use of the [Consume net] system did not fit in with council strategy [for networking].
