Hi Welcome to the L&D Community Network as a Speculative Member (no commitment needed). You are welcome to visit/come to our meetings and to see demos etc. Let me know if you want a demo. I have/will put your location on the map so that you can check to see if there is anyone within radio range. The system uses licence-exempt radio on 2.4GHz (cf Citizens Band) which is approved by the Radiocommunications Agency. The legal limit for the equipment in the UK is 100 milli watts which translates into a maximum theoretical range of about a mile. The practical range may be considerably less and can only be determined by a survey of your area and depends on environmental factors, e.g. hills, trees or tall buildings may block your signal. Assuming you can make a direct connection, then indirect connection (relay) would then connect you to all of the other users. I note that the following people are in your area: ------ Full details are on the L&D club website at: http://www.wlan.freeuk.com Comments on this are welcome. Offers of help are welcome. Full national details, database of current nodes, technical discussions, etc. can be found at: http://consume.net where you can also check for neighbouring nodes: -> [from the front page -> nodes db -> -> enter your post code (and range, I suggest 10Km) -> and press "search"] If you know of anyone else in this area who you think might be interested, please contact them and let me know their name, post code and e-mail address. Thanks. I will keep you informed of any significant progress and activities by including you on our newsletter distribution. I attach the latest issue for your interest. Best wishes Paul Clarke
