The criteria for proceeding with implementation of the network
will include:
- Having clearly identified the benefits for each and every member.
[Members may have differing interests that need catering for, including:
- Interacting with other members.
- Accessing the Internet.
- Interest groups and societies.
- Arts, media and entertainment (imagination and expression).
- Travel and experience groups and mobile facilities.
- Voluntary services groups.
- Amateur Sports groups.
- Computer Games groups.
- Collaboration activities.
- Domestic activities including control systems.
- Property security systems with remote controls.
- etc. (Please suggest)]
- Having demonstrated the benefits for every member.
- Having clearly identified costs and getting acceptance of
these by the members.
- Having identified groups of members who require shared
broadband Internet
connection through the network and having got their agreement
to share the costs and sign any ISP Terms and Conditions.
- Having "adequate connectivity".
[The term "adequate connectivity" is taken to mean that
the network would still be viable if some members left
(as has already happened) or their equipment failed,
i.e. there should be alternative redundant paths through
the network to enable non-stop functioning.
This may be achieved by obtaining a critical density of members
throughout the Luton and Dunstable area.
It is likely that at least 60 members will be needed.
(Currently there are about 30).
They will cover an area 10Km by 6 Km and be within 1Km
of each other. Alternatively, a cluster of members may
exist within a locality that would justify proceeding
- we could be there in LU1 "central" Luton.]
- Getting the members to commit to providing their nodes
and providing support for them.
- Getting members to agree to contribute facilities
necessary for others on the network
- The club having sufficient resources to connect
isolated colonies of nodes, either by deploying gap-fill nodes
or by tunneling via the Internet.
- Getting the members to "sign" agreement to the Terms and Conditions.
Other criteria may be added to this draft list. Please feel free to comment.
