(1) Next Demo of Network

The next (free) demo of L&D Community Network will be at
   
Event: The Luton Lives Volunteers Party
Place: The High Town Recreation Centre, Old Bedford Rd
Date: Saturday 15 June 02 (tomorrow)
Time: From 12.30pm to 3.30 pm
   
As well as seeing the network in action. 
this is a great chance to see (and join in) some of the volunteering 
activities that go on in the Luton and Dunstable area
and a time to congratulate nominated volunteers for their achievements.
   
This meeting is free to interested people.
  
Network Members are invited to help run the network demo
which will include playing of local video and video-conferencing.

(2) Attempted DVD Video over the Network
----------------------------------------
Following successful transmission of VideoCD (VCD) video 
(MPEG1 format at about 1.2Mbit/sec) over the network, 
we attempted to transmit DVD video (MPEG2 format at about 
4.25Mbit/sec) with less success. The picture and sound were 
"broken" causing discontinuous playback which is not acceptable.
The attempt was not helped by using "slow" 266 MHz processors
without hardware decoding.
