L&D Community Network Newsletter 19 April 02 -------------------------------------------- Contents: (1) Range Testing (2) Working with Luton Movie Makers (3) Artezium (4) Judging the Digital Media Arts Competition 2001                         ---oooo---   (1) Range Testing We now have an assortment of radio antennae including some homemade onmidirectional "Kim's" (using cakebox CD containers) directional "Cantenna" (using tin cans) and Kit Yagis (look like small TV aerials). We plan doing range testing using our portable mast at various locations in the L&D area. If any members want specific tests to see if they can connect to a neighbour, please let us know and we can give it a try.   (2) Working with Luton Movie Makers Luton Movie Makers are a group that produce home movies for their own fun and entertainment. Our group has an overlapping interest and we have made contact with their committee officers re. having joint meetings and other common activities.   (3) Artezium We are still waiting to hear from the Council about detailed plans for re-opening Artezium.  We are hoping that we may gain access to some of the facilities and be able to have meetings there and possibly site a node on the high roof.   (4) Judging the Digital Media Arts Competition 2001 Much progress has been made on the judging A panel of "young people" at the 33 Arts Centre (33 Guildford St) have judged 36 entries in four (of the ten) categories so far. Remember that each entry runs for 2 to 10 minutes so this was a big effort and has been spread over four days. We appreciate the panel's time and effort. The results should therefore be representative of what "young people" like, and this may give different results to judging by "experts". This may be somewhat controversial but we hope it will be accepted by the competition entrants. The results will be made known as soon as all categories have been judged.
