L&D Community Network Newsletter 21 Feb 02 ------------------------------------------ Contents: (1) The AGM (2) Statutory Documents: (3) Antennas for Demos (4) Artezium (5) Judging the Digital Media Arts Competition 2001 (6) Grant Applications                       ---oooo--- (1) The AGM The AGM was a washout - as nobody (well only 3 people) turned up. As this was too few to make any decisions, the meeting was closed. (2) Statutory Documents: We got some advice from Jubeda Kuddus of Voluntary Action Luton about our statutory documents and are going to release them in their current form. The latest copies are on the website for you to read. This will allow us to continue with setting up a bank account and applying for grants, etc. (3) Antennas for Demos We now have two antennas with masts, etc. for use in demonstrations, range testing and for connectivity surveys. (4) Artezium There may be a role for our group in the (about to) re-open Artezium. A meeting about this (with all interested parties) will be arranged by Luton Borough Council in due course. Leslie Hampsen (LBC) has indicated that its main function will be as a location for film based activities in the region. We could make good use of the facilities for: * holding meetings, * media activities * making videos * live netcasts * NV training of volunteers * presentations (e.g. talks by visiting networkers) * locally made film shows * prize giving for media competitions * hosting a node - the high, town-centre roof would be a good place for an antenna. (5) Judging the Digital Media Arts Competition 2001 A team of young artists including those from SNAP and others have been judging the entries to the "Digital Media Arts Competition 2001". Any non-competitor who turns up may judge! Judging details and criteria will be explained before judging starts. So to judge for yourself, go to 33 Arts at 33 Guildford Street, Luton on a Wednesday in February between 1pm and 3.30pm. There are too many entries for judging to be completed in one session and we will cover only one (of the ten categories) in each session. (6) Grant Applications We plan to apply for a grants under various schemes in the next few months and pursue several other avenues for funding - details to follow.
