My use for WLAN technology?
Well...
- I want to able to sync my email, mobile web pages and mind-it alerts anywhere around London without having to pay 20p minute using a 9600bps GSM data connection to Palm and PocketPC. I don't use my laptop out and about anymore as I find that I can get away with my PocketPC for scheduling/email/entertainment, vVault.com for online document storage and my mobile phone for communication. (Note: I work for pumatech (intellisync.com...shameless self promotion :) who does sync software for Palms and PocketPC's so I guess why this syncing is so important to me...)
- I want to be able to walk into a store and type or scan a barcode and do a comparison shop online, for the best price/service. Dixons, etc offers me no sevice whatsoever (well you can browse the product but the 'sales' people give you no added service) so I have no qualms about window shopping and then buying somewhere else.
- I want to be able to get streaming headlines from the sites I like delivered as they are posted (ie slashdot.org, geek.com, etc) and then be able browse to the full articles while sipping coffee in Brixton or having a beer in SOHO.
- Access our support database from my PocketPC while at customers sites.
I'm sure as this technology expands and I get used to the above uses then there will be more uses that come to light. I'm a firm beliver in the fact that new uses for this technology will arise as more people get comfortable with using it. and thats what i want.
